Participants are asked to register by 5:00PM (Japan Standard Time, GMT+9), Wednesday, March 20, 2019. All presenting authors must pre-register for the conference by this date to confirm their intention to attend. If you have co-authors, only one of the authors need to submit an abstract.

Abstracts must be sufficiently detailed to allow the program committee or the theme session organizer to judge the quality and originality of the proposed presentation. You will be notified of acceptance by April 10. If your submission is accepted, you may modify your abstract at any time by May 20, 2019.

The 71st annual meeting of PAJ will take place at Kagawa University, Kagawa Japan during 1-2 June 2019. Pre-conference excursion and special session are planned on 31 May 2019. Online registration and submission will be available soon!

All members of the Population Association of Korea, the Thai Population Association and the Population Association of Taiwan based on our four-country MOU, are welcomed to participate in or submit papers to the theme or regular sessions.

Notes: See below for session details. Pre-conference excursion “Population, Waste and Wonder Arts in Teshima, Kagawa” starts from Takamatsu Ferry Terminal 10:45, May 31. Special session “The 6th GIS Tutorial Seminar for Administrators” follows 16:00-19:00 at Kanagawa University. Please note that the pre-conference schedule is subject to change.

通常，Populationは，日本語では人口と訳しますが，その言葉は人間の数だけを示すものではありません．ヒト以外にも動植物特に動物や魚類の個体数を問題にします．つまり，ヒトと動植物の数の重さ = 個体群 = Population の研究に関して，瀬戸内の環境と人口に焦点を絞り，新たな問題提起ができればと考えております．

天明‐天保期の東北地方における気候と人口　－歴史気候学と人口学との対話－
Climate and population in the 18-19th century north-eastern Japan:
A new collaboration between demography and climatology

趣旨：

　人口学の役割は，過去・現在の人口変動とその要因を総合的にとらえ，人口変動を時間軸と空間軸のなかに位置づけ，将来予測につなげることにある。そのためには，人口変動の要因となる自然環境，社会環境に注目して，人口学に隣接する諸分野と対話を始めることが喫緊の課題である。本セッションは，人口学と歴史気候学とのキックオフ・ミーティングであり，天明‐天保期の気候と人口変動との関係について討論する。

　北関東以北では，18世紀初頭を頂点として人口が減少を続け，とくに宝暦期（1750年代）年，天明期（1780年代）年，天保期（1830年代）の凶作のため、死者・欠落者が多数に上った。飢饉の状況は，主として藩政史料により復原・検討されてきた。

　一方、歴史人口学は，「宗門改帳」や寺院「過去帳」などのマイクロデータによって，人口・家族復原を続けている。歴史気候学では，古日記に記されている天気，江戸時代末期の気象観測記録などのマイクロデータにもとづいて，18-19世紀の日本における気候復原が本格化した。宝暦・天明・天保飢饉の具体像を復原するには，人口変動の復原とともに，民衆の生活を詳細に記録した史料の発見に努め，異常天候，農業，作況，商品流通，食生活，さらには死因に接近を図る必要がある。

　本企画セッションでは，歴史気候学の専門家とともに天明‐天保期の人口減少要因に接近するため，東北地方における気候と人口変動との関係について検討したい。具体的には，7-9月の日照不足や低温障害などが確認できるのは宝暦・天明・天保期だけなのか，日照不足や低温障害が農作物の作況にどのように影響するのか，百姓の主食は何か、凶作時にどのような人口変動が観察できるのか，死亡危機が確認できるのは宝暦・天明・天保期だけなのか，凶作とは無関係な死亡危機も確認できるのかといった諸課題があげられる。

趣旨：

少子化が継続する日本では、世界でもっとも多くの不妊治療が行われている。治療によって挙児を得るカップルがいる一方で、精神的・身体的・経済的負担を抱えながらも挙児を得られない者も多い。諸外国と比較して日本ではより長い期間にわたって不妊治療を継続する傾向があり、養子縁組をすることや子どもを持たないことなど多様な選択肢から男女が積極的に選び取る状況には至っていない。このような現状は、日本における性や妊娠出産に関する情報のあり方と関係しているかもしれない。なぜならこれらの情報は性交や避妊といった性行動をはじめとして、子どもを授からない場合の対処方法（どのような不妊治療をどのくらいの期間受けるのか、養子縁組を考えるか、夫婦で生きていくことを選ぶか等）にも影響を及ぼすからである。本セッションでは、学校や家庭における性教育および、一般向けの書籍やウェブサイト、マスメディアにおける情報等について、世界と日本の対比、日本における歴史的変遷を軸としながら、現在の日本における性に関する情報の特徴を整理し、人口との関連について議論したい。

Child Bearing, Child Rearing and Child Survival in South Asia

This session is aimed to discuss patterns and factors related to reproduction, child mortality, as well as the characteristics of child rearing among population in South Asia. South Asia consists of eight developing countries. While three of those countries such as India, Pakistan and Bangladesh are within the ten most populous countries in the world, Sri Lanka and Maldives have achieved major improvements in various demographic indicators. Thus, inter-country socio-cultural, ethnic, religious, economic and political backgrounds significantly varies, exhibiting a great diversity within the region. It is of great interest to compare reproductive patterns and child rearing environment in various socio-cultural contexts in South Asia.

The discussion includes (1) behavioral patterns of child bearing and child rearing, (2) socio-demographic and cultural/religious factors associated with child bearing and child rearing, and (3) child survival/mortality in various communities in South Asia. Both qualitative and quantitative methodological approaches are used. This session is a great opportunity to explore the relationship between demography and diverse cultural/religious context in South Asia. In addition, since the PAJ has done very little on South Asia in its past annual meetings, this proposed session is expected to fill such a gap.

趣旨：

本セッションでは、主観的データを用いた人口学的分析に焦点を当てる。特に家族を中心に添え、家族構成やその動態が、価値観や幸福度といった主観的データとして捉えられる指標とどう関連するか分析を深めたい。その上で、分析から得られた結果について、理論的および客観的データを用いて整合性を討議し、今後のこの分野の研究の方向性を議論したい。加えて、主観的データを用いる際に共通して問題となる「指標の適切さ」や「結果の頑健性」について改めて考察したい。

応募に際しては、上記の内容に当てはまる研究であれば、価値観や幸福度に関わらずとも歓迎である。中でもグローバルな視点や領域横断的な視点を含む研究や、客観的データでは不可能だったが、主観的データを用いたからこそ得られた人口学的知見を含む研究を期待する。

趣旨：

昨今，GIS（地理情報システム）の急速な普及と人口データの利用環境の向上によって，市区町村レベルあるいはそれ以下のいわゆる小地域レベルでの人口分析が容易に行えるようになった。これらの人口分析の技法は，少子・高齢化対策，過疎対策，都市計画，防災，地域医療・福祉など，地方行政のさまざまな分野で大いに役立つことが期待できる。しかし，そうしたノウハウを啓蒙する機会は公的機関や一部の地方自治体が主催するセミナー等に限られており，必ずしも進んでいるとはいいがたい。一方，日本人口学会はそうした人口分析の技術を有する専門家が多数所属しており，そうした技法を地方の行政担当者へ伝達することも学会の社会的貢献の一つと考える。本セミナーは，多数の参加者が集う大会開催時にこうした趣旨を実行に移すべく企画されてきたものであり，今回は第1回（京都大），第2回（東京大），第3回（札幌市立大），第4回（明治大），第5回（椙山女学園大学）に続き6回目となる。

過去5回のセミナーでは，関西地方（第1回），関東甲信越地方（第2，4回），北海道地方（第3回），東海・北陸地方および静岡・滋賀（第5回）の全自治体に案内状を送付し，いずれも多数の行政担当者に参加いただいた。その結果，参加者からこの企画の継続を要望する声が多数寄せられ，たいへん有意義なセミナーとすることができた。今回は，香川県で大会を開催するにあたり中国・四国地方および兵庫の全自治体に案内状を送付し参加者を募る予定である。
